Three new internal research projects have been launched at the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BAdW). Within the ‘Economy and Labour’ research area, these projects address various aspects of digital transformation: whilst one project uses data-driven monitoring to provide a comprehensive overview of the digital world of work in Bavaria, another examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on roles and job profiles in IT and engineering. A third project is investigating how digital transformation processes can be effectively shaped within public-sector organisations, taking into account their specific legal and institutional frameworks.
Digital transformation is bringing profound change to the economy, the labour market, and public institutions. Shaping these developments requires robust scientific evidence on both their impacts and effective approaches to managing change. With these new research projects, we are strengthening this knowledge base and providing guidance for decision-makers in politics, public administration, and business.

An overview of the projects
Monitoring the Digital Workplace in Bavaria (MonDA-BY)
The project is developing a data-driven monitoring system for the digital world of work in Bavaria by systematically collating, processing and analysing a wide range of data sources. The results are made available via an interactive dashboard for policymakers, academia, industry and the general public.

AI in IT and Engineering (KI-TE)
The project focuses on how AI is specifically changing day-to-day work in software development and programming within IT and engineering. Based on qualitative and standardised surveys, it analyses the use of AI tools and their impact on work processes, job profiles, professional requirements and in relation to high productivity expectations.

Governance of Digital Transformation in Public-Sector Organisations (DiTraPO)
The project investigates how digital transformation can be shaped within public-sector organisations under specific legal, institutional and organisational conditions. It develops context-sensitive governance and design approaches that support an effective, legitimate and interoperable transformation.
