Use of public authority websites and apps

The indicator shows how many people have used public authority websites or apps in the last twelve months. This allows conclusions to be drawn about how well e-government structures and services are developed in a country. E-government is important for improving the quality of public administration and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

The awareness, use or acceptance of digital administrative services is therefore regularly investigated.

In 2024, almost 70% of the European population on average had used public sector websites or apps within the past twelve months. Germany has made significant progress in this area in recent years, but at 60% it still falls below the EU average and lags far behind the frontrunner, Denmark. Overall, most countries have seen only a slight increase in the use of public sector websites and apps since 2022.
