Knowledge about AI

The indicator shows whether and to what extent the self-assessed knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) exists in the German resident population aged 14 and over. This self-assessment can provide information on the extent to which the topic has reached the general population.

In Germany, more than 90% say they have at least some knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI). Only about 0.5% say they have never heard of artificial intelligence. Just under 7% say they have heard of it but do not know what AI actually is.

When the self-assessed level of knowledge is broken down by age and education, it becomes apparent that young people and those with a high level of education in particular claim to know a lot about AI. In contrast, among older respondents and those with a lower level of education, the proportion of those who say they do not know what AI is is significantly higher, at around one-third and one-fifth respectively.
