Internet communication with public authorities

The indicator shows how many people have searched for information on public-sector websites, downloaded official forms or submitted completed official forms online in the last twelve months. This allows conclusions to be drawn about how well e-government structures and offerings are developed in a country. E-government is important for improving the quality of public administration and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

The awareness, use or acceptance of digital administrative services is therefore regularly investigated.

In 2021, on average in Europe, more than half of the population had contact with public offices via the internet within the last twelve months. Germany is below the EU average.
