The indicator, based on self-assessment, illustrates how digital competences are distributed among the German resident population aged 14 and above. The indicator provides insight into which population groups in Germany are better equipped for the digital transformation and which groups may potentially have areas for improvement.
Based on the European Framework for Digital Competence (DigComp) by the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, the bidt-SZ-Digitalbarometer collected representative data on digital competences in Germany using the self-assessment test DigCompSAT (Clifford et al. 2020). The test comprises a total of 82 individual statements covering five competence areas. Differences in digital competences are observed both across sociodemographic characteristics and among individual federal states.
