AI competence

The indicator is based on a self-assessment test developed by the bidt think tank and, in line with DigCompSAT, measures which competencies for dealing with artificial intelligence respondents possess. It thus helps to illustrate how well different population groups are prepared for the increasing use of AI in both private and professional life.

In 2025, the average AI competence level of internet users in Germany amounts to 51 out of a maximum of 100 points. Pronounced gaps can be observed by age, level of education, and respondents’ household net income.

Among internet-using employees, there is furthermore a positive link between AI competence and the number of employees working for the respective company.
