About the Conference

The “bidt Digital Transformation Research Conference” brings together scholars from a wide range of disciplines who investigate digital transformation as a defining phenomenon shaping contemporary societies. Digital technologies permeate all areas of society – from business, public administration, and law to science, politics, media, as well as everyday social life, going along with far-reaching structural, organizational, and normative changes. As a cross-cutting societal issue, digital transformation is characterized by complex, multidimensional processes of change in which technological and social challenges intersect. The ubiquity of digital technologies and their impact across all societal spheres call for multi- and transdisciplinary research on digitalization and transformation in order to adequately analyze structures, dynamics, and consequences, to deepen our understanding, and to generate evidence-based impulses for a responsible, public-welfare-oriented shaping of digital transformation. As an interdisciplinary academic conference dedicated to digital transformation research, the “bidt Digital Transformation Research Conference”provides a forum for interdisciplinary exchange, networking, and joint discourse on the societal, economic, legal, and technological dynamics and implications of digital transformation.

The conference program is structured around three thematically distinct main sessions aligned with bidt’s core research areas: “Economy and Labour,” “Communication and Society,” and “Law and Ethics.” Each main session sets its own substantive focus, described in detail in the respective Call for Abstracts. This year’s conference centers on questions concerning the configuration of digital public spheres, responsibility, trust, and integrity in digital orders, and the governance of digital transformation under conditions of dynamism and uncertainty. The main sessions provide space for presenting and discussing current research in an interdisciplinary setting. Contributions may be submitted as extended abstracts (3–5 pages). Further information on thematic focus and submission modalities can be found in the respective Calls for Abstracts. The submission deadline is May 15, 2026.

In addition, the conference offers the opportunity to submit proposals for sub-sessions. These allow for a focused (interdisciplinary) in-depth exploration of specific questions in digital transformation research and may, alongside traditional presentation formats, include dialogical or experimental discussion formats. Bidt researchers, also in cooperation with other national and international scholars, are invited to submit topic and concept proposals for sub-sessions (2–3 pages). Further information can be found in the Call for Sub-Sessions. The submission deadline is April 15, 2026.

The conference is bilingual. Presentations may be delivered in either German or English. Each session will be conducted entirely in one of the two languages. Detailed information as well as the Calls for Abstracts and Sub-Sessions are also available in German on our German-language conference website.

We look forward to your ideas and to receiving your submissions, and to inspiring exchanges at the bidt Digital Transformation Research Conference on November 19-20, 2026 in Munich.
