Change at bidt: Professor Sabine Pfeiffer joins the eight-member board of directors with immediate effect. The sociologist researches the interplay between people, technology and organisations and has held the Chair of Sociology with precisely this focus at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg since 2018.

We are pleased to have won Professor Sabine Pfeiffer, a renowned sociologist, for the bidt board of directors. Currently, bidt is conducting over 30 interdisciplinary research projects throughout Bavaria. With her longstanding expertise in the field of the sociology, Sabine Pfeiffer will provide valuable impulses for research on digital transformation, especially at the interface of society, the economy and the work environment.

Prof. Dr. Alexander Pretschner To the profile

The topic of “work in change” runs like a thread through Sabine Pfeiffer’s curriculum vitae. As a trained toolmaker, she got to know operational organisational structures and production processes in practice. With a subsequent degree in sociology at the FernUniversität in Hagen and a subsequent doctorate, she added a scientific perspective to her expertise. Her career has included positions at the ISF Munich – both in research and on the board. Sabine Pfeiffer already held professorships at the University of Applied Sciences Munich as well as at the University of Hohenheim before she followed the call to the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

As a sociologist, I am driven by the question of how work and technology interact in companies, but also what consequences the digital transformation has for society.

Prof. Dr. Sabine Pfeiffer To the profile

“The digital transformation is changing many things, but even in times of mobile work and virtual meetings, the company as a social place is not obsolete. Artificial intelligence and machine learning do not replace human working skills and contextual knowledge. I am looking forward to accompanying the research at bidt and the further development of the institute’s profile as a new member of the board of directors,” says Sabine Pfeiffer.

Sabine Pfeiffer succeeds Andreas Boes, Professor of Sociology and ISF Board Member, who resigned from the bidt Board of Directors on 1 January 2023.
