With the 2022/2023 digitalisation survey, the DIHK is investigating the status of digitalisation in German companies. To this end, 4,073 companies from various sectors were asked about their digitalisation goals, projects and any challenges and hurdles.
The results show that managers see great potential in digitalisation and have a correspondingly high level of interest in the digital transformation of their company. However, there is often a lack of the necessary human and financial resources for structurally sustainable digitalisation processes. In particular, there is a lack of suitably qualified IT specialists for their implementation. The complex regulatory framework and inadequate broadband infrastructure are also often critical obstacles.
The desire for political measures to improve the framework conditions is correspondingly high. 59% of companies are calling for the further expansion of a high-performance broadband infrastructure. 38% would like better access to public funding for digitalisation projects.
Another obstacle, especially for smaller companies without their own legal department, is the opaque legal situation with regard to data and information security. For example, 53% of companies cite legal uncertainties as a key challenge when using data.
