The bidt issues an annual call for interdisciplinary consortium projects and offers funding opportunities under this scheme. Consortia generally comprise three (at least two) academic partners from different disciplines, with at least one consortium partner expected to have a background in the technical sciences.

Funding format

The project duration is initially two years and can be extended by a further year after a successful interim evaluation. Upon request, the bidt will provide project funds to the participating institutions for the implementation of the projects. Funding will cover personnel costs for employees, material resources and a flat-rate fee for the use of infrastructure at the applicant’s institution. The project will start in the second quarter of 2027.

How to apply

The application and selection process is multi-stage. The deadline for submitting project outlines (first stage) with an initial project description covering a period of three years is 24 April 2026. After admission to the second stage, the full application must be submitted by 31 August 2026. Scientists who have completed a doctorate (or have proven equivalence to a doctorate) are eligible to apply. Applicants and their project staff must be affiliated with a scientific institution based in Bavaria.
