Against the backdrop of the energy price crisis, bidt has surveyed employees for the eighth time on the prevalence and acceptance of working from home in Germany.
The proposal by some employers to expand the options for working from home in order to save energy costs was met with a positive response from around two thirds of working internet users. However, the majority of employees surveyed doubt the seriousness of the proposal. Only 15% actually expect their employer to expand home office options.
Similarly, only 15% of employees actually want to expand their home office use. on the other hand, 8% state that they want to reduce working from home due to rising energy costs. Apparently, for many employees, the savings in commuting costs outweigh the additional costs for heating and electricity at home, among other things. When asked about the main reasons for working from home, energy costs only play a subordinate role for most home office users. In particular, the better work-life balance is still cited as the main reason for working from home.
To summarise, there has been a slight increase in the use of working from home. At 55% of those in employment, more people are currently working from home at least occasionally than in all previous survey waves. Satisfaction with their own home office situation has also risen slightly compared to previous surveys. At 91%, the proportion of home office users surveyed who are somewhat or very satisfied with their own home office situation is at the highest level of the previous survey waves.
