The study Working from Home Around the Globe: 2023 Report analyses the home office situation of employees in 34 countries. Around 42,400 full-time employees between the ages of 20 and 64 who have at least a secondary school qualification were surveyed.
The study shows that there is a discrepancy between what employees want and what employers offer. For example, employees in Germany would like to work from home an average of 1.8 days per week, but employers only plan for 1.2 days. Employees in Germany actually work from home for an average of 1.0 days, which puts them in the middle of the European field.
In general, it can be stated that employees in English-speaking countries work from home most frequently worldwide. Canada is in the lead with 1.7 days per week, followed by the UK with 1.5 days and the USA with 1.4 days, while employees in Australia work from home on average 1.3 days per week.
The study also analysed the advantages employees see in working from home and the benefits of working in the office. Working from home is perceived as more flexible and is characterised by time and cost efficiency. Meanwhile, working in the office is valued above all for the social component, such as socialising with colleagues. The better demarcation between work and private life is also viewed positively.
