Servus, AI! The Bavarian Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence is entering its second round!

How is artificial intelligence changing our everyday lives, the world of work and societal processes? The “Servus, AI! Bavarian Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence” series brings people across Bavaria together with experts from academia and practice. Following its first season, the Bavarian Dialogue is now continuing, with the bidt once again contributing insights from its research.

The lecture series ‘Servus, AI! The Bavarian Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence’ is jointly organised by the Bavarian adult education centres, acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering, the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) and Lernende Systeme – Germany’s Platform for Artificial Intelligence (PLS). At selected adult education centres across Bavaria, members of the public meet experts from research and practice. The talks present current knowledge in an accessible way, explore specific applications and provide opportunities for questions and discussion. They focus on the opportunities and challenges associated with artificial intelligence, as well as participants’ expectations and experiences..

Review: A season of ‘Servus, AI’

Following its first season, the Bavarian Dialogue is now continuing. The bidt took part in the first round with several contributions from its digitalisation research.

Dr Roland A. Stürz, Head of the Data & Monitoring Department at the bidt, used recent survey data to demonstrate how artificial intelligence is transforming the world of work and which skills will be in demand in the future.

Sabine Pfeiffer, Professor of Sociology and Chair of the bidt Board of Directors, focused on the employees’ perspective and explored how they view the use of AI in the workplace.

The role of AI in journalism was also addressed during the first season. Professor Hannah Schmid-Petri, a member of the bidt Board of Directors and Professor of Science Communication at the University of Passau, and Dr Daria Kravets-Meinke, Research Officer at the bidt, examined how generative AI is changing journalistic work and how audiences perceive AI-generated news.

Preview: Content for the second season of “Servus, AI”

In the second season, researchers from the bidt will once again contribute current research findings to the dialogue. The first bidt event will take place at vhs Fürth on 17 December 2026 under the title ‘How can digital transformation be shaped within companies?’ PD Dr Angela Graf, Research Coordinator for ‘Economy and Labour’ and Research Project Leader at the bidt, and Anna Kiemer, Researcher at the bidt, will explain why digital transformation involves far more than simply introducing new technologies. Drawing on the bidt research project ‘Digital Transformation of Engineering Companies’ (DIEC), they will provide insights into the transformation of a long-established mechanical engineering company and discuss the roles that employees, collaboration and organisational structures play in this process.

On 2 February 2027, Ute Schmid, a member of the bidt Board of Directors and Professor of Cognitive Systems at the University of Bamberg, will give a talk entitled ‘AI and Education: Human Capital or Humanism?’ at vhs Hofer Land. The event will focus on how AI — and chatbots such as ChatGPT in particular — can be used effectively. Alongside practical applications, the talk will examine the strengths and weaknesses of different AI systems, as well as their limitations, risks and implications for data protection.

On 5 April 2027, Dr Niina Zuber, Research Coordinator for ‘Law and Ethics’ at the bidt, will address how ChatGPT and other AI applications can be used safely and responsibly at vhs Rosenheim. Entitled ‘ChatGPT & Co.: What Should I Know to Use Them Safely and Responsibly?’, the event will explore the opportunities and limitations of generative AI and consider what users should bear in mind when using these tools.

With further events addressing different applications and societal questions surrounding artificial intelligence, ‘Servus, AI!’ continues the dialogue between research and the public. Participants can contribute their own questions and experiences, discuss different perspectives and join experts in considering how artificial intelligence and digital transformation can be shaped responsibly.
