Two podcasts report on the AI assistant OneTutor. In the live episode of the Deutschlandfunk podcast “Understanding AI”, hosts Ralf Krauter and Carina Schroeder talk about how university lecturers can use artificial intelligence creatively. They discuss AI tutor systems and the extent to which they can supplement or even replace face-to-face teaching. The podcast episode from 22 May 2025 not only explains how students use AI tutors, but also how they can make lecturers’ everyday work easier. The episode focuses on the AI assistance system OneTutor, which was developed by students at the Technical University of Munich under the direction of Professor Alexander Pretschner, Chairman of the bidt Board of Directors and Professor of Software & Systems Engineering. OneTutor turns Bavaria into a real-world laboratory for AI teaching, which is also being scientifically analysed by the “Effectiveness of Generative AI Tutors in Higher Education” research project at bidt. The project is also led by Professor Alexander Pretschner, who also has his say in the podcast episode and reports on his experiences with OneTutor in university teaching:
I also find this extremely useful in my lectures because I can see afterwards, oh, obviously I didn’t explain certain things well enough or for some reason there were misunderstandings when students keep asking questions about certain topics.
