Prof. Dr. Lena Frischlich
Associate Professor and Vice-Director, University of Southern Denmark
Lena Frischlich is an Associate Professor at the Digital Democracy Center at the University of Southern Denmark and an external faculty member of the Complexity Science Hub in Vienna, where she works at the intersection of Communication Science and Media Psychology. Her research interests include the emergence of new opportunity structures in the digital realm for both manipulative communication, such as propaganda, disinformation, and hate speech, and for strengthening democracy and empowering individual media users. She studies these questions from an interdisciplinary, multi-methodological perspective, combining quantitative, qualitative, and computational methods. She has completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Cologne and worked as a Post-Doc at the Department of Communication at the University of Muenster. Between 2018 and 2023, she led an interdisciplinary junior research group on democratic resilience (DemoRESILdigital) in Muenster. Between 2020 and 2021 and in 2023, she served as an interim professor for Communication at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich.
