Brief description of the doctoral project

This dissertation examines how the integration of AI technologies influences epistemic autonomy in the humanities within higher education and how AI can be used to strengthen it. Epistemic autonomy refers to the ability to think critically, evaluate information independently, and form one’s own conclusions. The research focuses on ethical questions regarding AI use in education, especially its impact on students’ creative and critical thinking skills. It will analyze different concepts of epistemic autonomy and heteronomy, with a focus on human-AI interaction. Risks of uncritical reliance on AI-generated content will also be addressed. The goal is to provide an ethical and pedagogical evaluation of AI’s role in education and develop practical recommendations for promoting epistemic autonomy.
