Brief description of my doctoral project

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a new social actor, permeating digital spaces such as social media, search engines, and even online encyclopedias. Like humans, AI systems based on large-language models can communicate with individuals in natural language on a variety of topics. Like humans, AI can also engage in different conversational behaviors. My dissertation investigates how different conversational behaviors as well as topics impact beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. This research shows that conversations with AI can impact polarization, information processing, and attitudes towards other people.
