To drive the heat transition in the building sector, high hopes are placed on digital solutions for building automation and user integration.
Using current digitization projects in multifamily buildings, I explore the barriers posed by human-technology interaction. The different interests and practices of tenants, housing companies, and manufacturers evoke manifold challenges for the innovation process: savings targets are easily missed, the energy performance gap negatively impacts regulatory targets, and technology diffusion is hampered.
A combination of measurement data, building physics information, and qualitative as well as quantitative interviews with all relevant stakeholders allows me to conduct a comprehensive socio-technical analysis of the interaction problems between people and technology.
