Brief description of the doctoral project

In my PhD project, I am researching the process of the emergence of sovereign European (cloud) infrastructures. This quest for independence is repeatedly coming up against its limits: The autonomous power of disposal over data becomes more and more important, the possibilities to do without the services of Google & Co. more and more limited.
With an interdisciplinary, sociological perspective, my project opens the view for the different interests in the field and shows which conflicts and contradictions arise in the process of infrastructuring digital sovereignty.
In this way, my project aims to contribute to a more differentiated view of the shaping of the digital transformation in the EU and to provide perspectives on the question “What kind of digitization and for whom do we want in Germany and Europe?”.
