Disruptive events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, impact millions of people. For example, the pandemic outbreak led to wider adoption of digital technologies such as Zoom and Netflix. To effectively respond to the challenges that disruptive events pose to society and organizations, it is important to understand how they affect user behaviors.
In my PhD, I develop a holistic understanding of disruptive events and their impact on user behavior. Specifically, I develop a taxonomy that can be used to classify disruptive events, analyze how users process them, and show how they act as catalysts for the use of digital technologies.
