Brief description of the doctoral project
My PhD project aims to enhance dysphagia analysis using computer-assisted methods. Dysphagia, a symptom of diseases like Parkinson’s or cancer, is evaluated through videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS). The project focuses on automating VFSS analysis and creating a “bologram” for improved visualization and quantification to aid diagnosis and treatment. It involves three steps: building a comprehensive VFSS dataset for AI training, developing a pipeline for semantic segmentation of anatomical structures, and introducing the bologram for objective assessment of swallowing physiology. This will enable tracking of swallowed material and anatomical landmarks, providing objective measures to improve dysphagia management in clinical settings.
