The success of digital services is equally dependent on individual and societal readiness for the digital transformation. If there is only a low level of acceptance for new technologies or the exchange of data, the potential for digitization in the context of smart city initiatives can reach its limits. This is because the maximum benefit of technological innovations for everyone – citizens, companies and the public sector – requires collaboration between these very actors, resulting in added value for all. This research project investigates collaborations within the value creation processes of digital services, the so-called value co-creation. Based on selected examples in the context of smart city initiatives and beyond, challenges of value co-creation for digital services will be identified and addressed in experimental studies.
