AI-Driven Digital Forensics: Enhancing Evidential Integrity and Efficiency through Generative Artificial Intelligence in Knowledge Representation

 

Digital traces are becoming increasingly relevant in digital forensic
investigations. Unfortunately, investigating authorities are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of digital traces. The question now is whether artificial intelligence can help with this problem.

 

The research project will evaluate the role artificial intelligence can play in digital forensic investigations. Since various artificial intelligence technologies have drawbacks in terms of traceability, transparency and interpretability, it is necessary to evaluate how the evidential value in digital forensic investigations is influenced by artificial intelligence. Criteria are defined, evaluated and models implemented to measure this influence. Furthermore, artificial intelligence models will be developed that implement the identified criteria.

 

The research project will enable a fair use of artificial intelligence in investigations, which will realise a transparent and comprehensible use of these technologies.
