Brief description of my doctoral project
AI chatbots are gaining relevance as a tool connecting people and digital support in healthcare. In health communication, they create new opportunities, but also raise fundamental questions: Can patient-centered communication, which is considered a central quality standard in clinician–patient communication, be transferred to interactions with AI – and if so, under what conditions? This dissertation project examines how patient-centered communication with conversational AI can be theoretically conceptualized, measured, and designed. It combines approaches from health communication and human–AI interaction with quantitative studies and choice situations. The findings aim to contribute to responsible AI chatbot design.
