Brief description of my doctoral project
My doctoral research examines the political, economic, and institutional conditions of digital sovereignty and platformisation in the European Union. Taking smart farming as a case study, the project analyses why digital platforms in data-intensive but non-information-based sectors tend to reinforce existing actors and proprietary ecosystems rather than disrupting markets. Building on this, the research develops digital sovereignty as managed interdependence: not autarky, but the strategic governance of dependencies. A particular focus lies on skills, knowledge, and talent flows as underappreciated resources for digital transformation. The findings aim to generate new empirical and conceptual entry points for European digital and industrial policy.
