Brief description of the doctoral project
My PhD project is concerned with the intricate relationship between selective attention and the role of the inner ear in speech decoding, with a particular focus on the measurement of distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE). In order to achieve this, a new methodology will be developed for the design of stimuli following the temporal fine structure of speech.
Ultimately, the goal is to create an immersive multi-speaker experimental environment with stimuli that closely resemble natural human speech. By exploring the relationship between mechanical feedback from the inner ear and speech-in-noise comprehension, this research will contribute to the development of hearing aids that are better able to adapt to complex auditory environments.
