Hannah Schmid-Petri is a member of bidt’s Board of Directors. She is a Professor of Science Communication at the University of Passau. Her area of research centres on examining how scientific and political topics are communicated to the public through new, digitally networked media environments. Specifically, she delves into the public discourse surrounding climate change, the emergence of climate change scepticism, and the possible regulatory approaches for online platforms. Additionally, she leads the Fraunhofer research group “Science Communication”, part of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence “Integrated Energy Systems” CINES.
Between criticism and campaigning: On the strategic use of media hostility in digital crisis discourse (CRASH – Crisis And Strategic Hostility)
The project analyses how anti-media messages spread in digital public spheres during crises, which actors are involved, and how AI-supported chatbot interventions can help counter disinformation campaigns.
