Brief description of my doctoral project
In my dissertation, I develop an AI model which will support skin cancer removal surgeries at LMU’s dermatology clinic. The model detects where tumor nests are located in microscopic scans of excised skin tissue. Doctors can thus better identify and remove malignant tissue. Furthermore, I research how this system can be trained with less data. This would ideally also translate into better detecting rare pathologies for which there is little data available. This will be driven by multimodal large language models. I aim to bring “human learning,” which is more based on understanding and explanations, to medical AI models.
