Prof. Bashar Nuseibeh

Executive Dean of the School of Science & Technology, City St George’s, University of London

Bashar Nuseibeh is Professor of Computing and Executive Dean of Science & Technology at City St George’s, University of London, and serves as Research Pillar Chair of the UK’s Responsible AI programme (RAi UK). He is an Emeritus Professor at the Open University, UK, and an Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He previously served as Chief Scientist of  the Irish Software Research Centre, Lero,  and as a Reader in Computing at Imperial College London, where he continues as a Visiting Professor. He holds a number of  honourary and visiting professorships in the UK, Ireland and Japan.Bashar’s research lies at the intersection of software engineering, adaptive systems, and security & privacy. His work also addresses physical and psychosocial dimensions of technology. He is the recipient of a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant on Adaptive Security and Privacy, and an ERC Proof of Concept grant that contributed to the commercialisation of his patented innovations. Bashar’s work has been recognised with numerous awards, including a Philip Leverhulme Prize, a Royal Society-Wolfson Merit Award, an ICSE Most Influential Paper Award, and the 2025 Harlan D Mills Award.Bashar is a Fellow of the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering and the ACM, and is a Member of Academia Europaea and the Royal Irish Academy.
