Brief description of my doctoral project

Advances in language recognition, sentiment analysis, and natural language generation enable AI systems to closely mimic human conversation. They are available at all times, easily accessible, and allow anonymous use. In the light of reimbursement cuts for psychotherapists in Germany and a global rise in social isolation, the use of AI chatbots for social support is likely to increase. Therefore, in my dissertation I investigate how generative AI is used for social support beyond specialized chatbots and examine its psychological effects. The aim is to better understand the role of AI in everyday life in an age of rapid digital transformation.
